A delicate late 19th-century watercolor by Adele Williams (February 24, 1868 – December 18, 1952) titled After the Ball, dated Dec. 15, ’94, depicting a young woman reclining in bed or on a pillow after an evening out. Rendered in soft washes of blue, cream, and mauve, the work captures a quiet, intimate moment with expressive handling and a loosely impressionistic touch. The piece is signed lower right “Adèle Williams” and inscribed lower left with the title and date. Presented matted and framed in a gilt frame. The reverse retains an exhibition label from the Bergen Museum of Art and Science for the 1987 exhibition “Works about Women,” adding notable provenance and display history. Approx. frame size (in): 14.5 x 17.5 x 1, Approx painting size (in): 6.25 x 9.25.
