Framed historical display featuring an engraved portrait of Union Major General Daniel E. Sickles in military uniform above an original Bank of the Metropolis check dated December 9, 1885. The check is drawn on an account at 11 Union Square, made payable to B. Wilson for $86.66, and bears Sickles’ signature. A prominent and controversial Civil War officer, Sickles commanded the III Corps at the Battle of Gettysburg and later received the Medal of Honor. Both pieces are individually matted beneath glass and presented in a carved dark wood frame. Approx. frame size (in): 17 x 14 x 0.5.
