An antique copper-engraved and hand-colored map of North and South America by French geographer Jean Janvier, published in Paris in 1762 under the title “L’Amérique Divisée par Grands États.” The map presents the Western Hemisphere with detailed coastlines, political divisions, rivers, islands, and period geographical interpretations, including an enlarged western portion of North America labeled “Mer de l’Ouest.” An ornate botanical and rococo cartouche appears at the lower right.
