McAllister, Optician, New York. Each slide is housed in a finely crafted wooden mount with a circular viewing aperture, designed for use in early projection devices. These transformation slides are particularly desirable, featuring layered or mechanical imagery that changes when projected, creating a dramatic visual effect. The subject matter centers on religious scenes from the life and Passion of Christ, including the Crucifixion and entombment, rendered in richly detailed hand-colored imagery. One slide is labeled “The body of Christ laid in Tomb,” with additional maker’s marks and series identifiers visible along the edges.
