A beautiful Meiji-period Japanese woodblock print by master artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, titled “Mount Ashigara Moon – Yoshimitsu” from his celebrated series One Hundred Aspects of the Moon. Created in 1889, the work depicts the 11th-century courtier and warrior Minamoto no Yoshimitsu seated on Mount Ashigara, playing the shō, a traditional bamboo mouth organ, beneath the moonlit landscape. This series was Yoshitoshi’s final major achievement and is widely regarded as one of the finest accomplishments of late ukiyo-e printmaking. The composition features strong color, dramatic placement of the figure and tree, snowy mountain forms, printed cartouches, artist signature, and seal. Presented in a matted black frame with museum glass, the piece offers an elegant and highly collectible example from one of Japan’s most important printmakers.
