This artwork is number 56 from the series Hyakunin Isshu Eshō (“Pictures of One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets”), a visual interpretation of the celebrated classical poetry anthology Ogura Hyakunin Isshu. The composition includes an open illustrated book-form cartouche above the figure, elegant floral kimono decoration, and finely colored period-style details. Presented matted under glass in a black frame, with visible toning, age-related discoloration, mat staining, and minor wear consistent with age and framing. Not examined outside the frame.
