The print illustrates the celebrated Japanese legend of the fox-woman Kuzunoha, shown departing and leaving her child, Abe no Seimei, behind a screen, with poetic calligraphy above and descriptive text within the composition. Richly detailed in blue, grey, salmon, black, and cream tones, the work displays Hiroshige’s refined linework and narrative sensibility, combining literary reference, folklore, and elegant figural design. Presented matted and framed. Visible condition issues include toning, fading, creasing, surface wear, and handling marks consistent with age, with the reverse showing older backing and mounting materials.
